Belgotex Sport Fairmont Easter Tournament 2022 promises bigger, better and louder than ever before

After the 2021 Belgotex Sport Fairmont Hockey Tournament gave us the taste tester, like a starter at a Michelin-starred restaurant, 2022 promises to take you on a taste adventure of epic proportions. The kind of main course that has you dreaming about becoming a restaurateur and creating your own Gourmet Cuisine. Or at least appealing to your hunger for quality hockey that will undoubtedly be fulfilled over the course of four days, five venues and forty-eight teams and 168 matches

The tournament is the biggest co-ed tournament in South Africa with the teams being split up into Cup, Plate and Shield tournaments on the completion of the Group Stages. There will be twenty-four teams in the Boys section including Bishops, Paarl Gimnasium, Paarl Boys and of course Fairmont High School. While the girl’s section will have the same number with the likes of Hudson Park, York High School, St Cyprians, StellenbergHigh School and Somerset College grabbing the attention on first looks.

If teams want to be the ultimate champions of the 2022 edition of the Belgotex Sport Fairmont Easter Tournament, they will need to win their pool to secure a spot in the semi-finals. But much like the incredibly popular World Rugby 7s circuit, there will still be something for teams to fight for on the final day whether they finished top of the pool or bottom.

The tournament offers initiatives that few others can rival with a video referral system in place for medal matches, posts that light up, tracking of results via the Sportivo App and of course live streaming, with a fantastic commentary team on the SuperSport Schools App and YouTube Channel. The player of the match initiative introduced in 2021 will be back as players will earn the right to wear lumo socks in the next game if they are picked as the standout player. While all the immense entertainment takes place on the field, the crowds off the field will be guided by the brilliance of Ricky Schroeder as the on-duty MC!
