Cape Co-Ed Cup: A Memorable Finale Despite the Rain
The Cape Co-Ed Cup, powered by Belgotex Sport, delivered an unforgettable weekend of hockey in the Western Cape, concluding on a dramatic note with heavy rain on the final day. The tournament showcased the best of school-level hockey, crowning champions in various categories and honoring the school with the highest combined rankings for both boys and girls.
Though the weather played a significant role in the finale, it couldn't dampen the spirit of the event. The Co-Ed Cup once again highlighted the passion and talent within South African hockey, celebrating the sport's vibrant community.
Bowl Winners:
Girls: Kenridge – Julia Lurie secured a 1-0 victory over Panorama.
Boys: Somerset College – A closely contested match saw Somerset edge Rondebosch 1-0.
Shield Winners:
Girls: Fish Hoek – Teagan Edwards and Zoe Ascott-Evans each scored in a 2-0 win over St. Cyprians.
Boys: Outeniqua – A hat-trick from Konrad Gouws, along with a goal from Markus Botha, led to a dominant win over Curro Durbanville.
Plate Winners:
Girls: De Hoop – A hat-trick from Lara Roosentrach secured a 3-1 victory over Beaumont.
Boys: Paarl Boys – JJ van der Walt’s brace and Zach Ontong’s goal resulted in a 3-0 win over Panorama.
Cup Final:
Girls: Durbanville 1-0 Eikestad – Leah Goebel scored the only goal before the match was cut short due to torrential rain, with the result standing.
Boys: Kenridge and Bishops – The final was unfortunately called off due to a waterlogged turf, resulting in a shared cup.
Overall Co-Ed Winners: De Hoop emerged victorious, with their girls winning the Plate and the boys finishing third in the Cup Semi-Finals. Their combined performance earned them the title of Co-Ed Cup champions.
