Belgotex Easter Hockey Tournament – Day 2: Finding Their Direction

Day 2 of the Belgotex Sport Easter Hockey Tournament felt like watching a giant GPS system recalculating in real-time. Teams navigated the twists, turns, and near-misses of the Cup, Shield, and Bowl group phases, trying to set their course for glory. Some stayed on the highway to the semi-finals, others hit a detour or two - but everyone’s map is now starting to take shape.

Thanks to our Headline Sponsor, Belgotex Sport, and an incredible supporting cast of WP Motors, Enhanced Sports, Princess & Ozzo, World Wide Scholarships, Cape Tents, ES Media, and SuperSport Schools, the journey continues to be first-class.

BOYS – Cup Groups: It’s All About the Road Ahead

  • Group A is headed for a showdown. Punt and Worcester Gim are tied on four points and face off on Friday morning in what’s essentially a semi-final ticket match. Punt’s goal difference boost - thanks in part to a brace from Emile van Rensburg vs Pro-Ed Akademie - means a draw would be enough to get them through.
  • In Group B, it’s another straight shootout: Stellenberg and Langehoven both sit on six points from two games, with Stellenberg’s slightly better GD giving them the advantage if it ends level.
  • Group C belongs to Monument (so far), who sit top after two wins - including a 4-3 thriller against Outeniqua. Goals came from Nathan Potgieter, Obinna Nwadiogbu, Reece Green, and Caleb Aitken, and they look like a side building serious momentum.
  • Group D is the wildcard of the day. Fairmont lead, but their draw with Bridge House has opened the group right up. Every team still has a mathematical shot at the top spot. Fairmont’s clash with DF Malan will decide their fate - it’s win-and-in territory.

Shield & Bowl: Clarity Starting to Emerge

  • In the Shield chase, St John’s, Middelburg, Kempton Park, and Kingswood currently sit top of their pools after Day 2 - one hand on a semi-final ticket, but the job’s not done yet.
  • In the Bowl race, Hugenote, Hermanus, HTS Drostdy, and Redhill are the ones setting the pace. The GPS says “continue straight” - but Friday could bring a few speed bumps.

GIRLS – Cup Groups: Maps, Margins & Match-Ups

  • Group A sees St. Paul’s leading the way with two from two. A draw against Peterhouse on Friday will seal the deal and book their place in the final four.
  • Group B has Durbanville as frontrunners after big wins over Monument and Paarl Gim Invitational. Their clash with Fairmont is effectively a quarter-final. Durbanville need just a draw to march on.
  • In Group C, it’s an all-Eastern Gauteng showdown. Dr EG Jansen and Kempton Park both won their Day 2 games, and now face off. EG Jansen’s goal difference edge means a draw will do - but we all know nobody’s playing for second place.
  • Group D is the most evenly balanced of the lot. A 0-0 draw between Rustenburg and Outeniqua sees both tied at the top on four points. Rustenburg plays Wynberg Girls, and Outeniqua takes on Nelspruit. Expect calculators, drama, and some real scoreboard watching - this group could come down to goal difference.

Girls Shield & Bowl – Route Becoming Clearer

  • La Rochelle, York, Stirling, and Ashton College currently top their respective Shield pools - but margins are tight and Friday morning will settle the scores.
  • In the Bowl group, it’s HTS Drostdy, Punt, Hugenote, and Fairmont Invitational who’ve navigated best so far - but the maps could still re-route.
